Blood Donor Hero Program
Pets need blood transfusions just like people, for various reasons including surgery, trauma and disease. Blood is a life saving product and healthy blood donors are in great demand.
If your dog is big and healthy he might be eligible to become a 'blood donor hero' with East Island Animal Hospital. Successful donors receive a wide range of benefits including free health checks, free vaccinations and heartworm prevention and free blood tests. All it takes is a few trips to clinic every year to donate blood.
Donation is a simple procedure and dogs do not usually require anesthesia. Sometime a light sedation is needed. The donation process generally takes up to 30 minutes. Upon completion, you can take your dog home, however, strenuous exercise should be avoided for 1 to 2 days. Blood donation is relatively painless too.
If you are interested in joining our program a small amount of blood will be drawn from your dog. A quick blood test will determine your dog's blood type and identify any blood or organ abnormalities, free-of-charge. If your dog meets all the criteria, he may be enrolled. Once your dog is approved as a donor, he will be scheduled to donate about four times a year in our clinic.
Donor Benefits
In return for your companion donating blood, East Island Animal Hospital will provide the following as donor benefits:
- A free health check up at each donation
- A completed blood count profile (CBC) and General Health Profile(GHP) blood test plus Babesia canis, Ehrlicia spp (ticks fever) test every year
- Free for Proheart Injection every year
- Free Annual Vaccination (GHPPiL)
- A bag of treats after each blood donation
Additionally, we will take a photo of your dog and post onto our "Monthly Blood Donor Hero" board in our clinic's waiting area, website and Facebook page.

Competition Results
After tallying all the results, we have determined who is officially Hong Kong's cutest pet. And the winner is…… Bosco! The race was a close one, Bosco and Katy were very close in the final days. However, although Katy had more votes, Bosco had more 5 stars than Katy, so Bosco came out in front.
The cats were also in for a very close race. Shredded Coconut took the lead and just came ahead of Little Cat Cat to win the final prize.
At East Island Animal Hospital we decided to have a staff vote for our favourite entrants. Pan Pan is a little dog with a huge personality and Coffee is the laziest cat we've ever seen – so these pets have won the 'Staff Pick' and also picked up a great prize!
Prize winners were notified by email and a time arranged to come for their official prize-giving ceremony at East Island Animal Hospital. See the photos above and below!

Bosco
It was a very close race but in the end Bosco snuck ahead of Katy to win the overall prize. Congratulations Bosco – you are officially Hong Kong's Cutest Pet!

Shredded Coconut
The winner of the Cutest Cat category. It's easy to see why – it doesn't get much cuter than this!

Pan Pan
Pan Pan is a regular client at East Island Animal Hospital and we love his playful nature and cute face. He's our pick for Hong Kong's cutest.

Coffee
Coffee was by far the most popular with the staff at East Island Animal Hospital. We've never seen such a relaxed looking cat… But maybe he should go on a bit of a diet?
